Citadel Shades are specially formulated to flow over other paints and into the recesses on your miniatures, defining details and accentuating recesses. Once applied, they dry to provide very effective shading for your models.

All Games Workshop paints are non-toxic, water-based acrylic that are designed for use on plastic, metal, and resin Citadel miniatures. One pot contains 18ml of shade paint.

The pigment stays suspended better than most washes I’ve tried, so it doesn’t pool into ugly blotches on flat panels. The recesses on my plague marines came out properly dark without staining the raised edges, and it dried matte enough that a quick drybrush brought everything back to life.

The Poxwalker shade flows into crevices on my plague marines nicely, but it dries a bit glossier than I expected for a wash. Still, the recess shading is precise and saves me a lot of time.
